Ladies: Please update your profile photo.

April 15, 2011

Ladies, it’s your turn.  Let’s talk pictures.

Men are making decisions based on your main profile picture.  Don’t rebel against this fact.  Embrace it and make sure this is the best representation of YOU possible.  You are as beautiful outside as you are inside.  But again, we’re not sure because your profile picture could use some work.

  • You should be the only person in your profile picture.  Crop if you must.  But do not stamp out other people with Photoshop, or leave us guessing which person is you.  Save group photos for your additional pictures.
  • Always a bridesmaid, never a bride. Bridesmaid gowns are notorious for their lack of beauty.  It’s not the best idea for your profile picture.
  • Loving babies is a plus. But again, keep the children out of your profile picture, unless they’re yours.  And even then, your children might be mortified to have appeared in your online dating profile.
  • Keep it modest, ladies.  (enough said)
  • Your personal favorite doesn’t count. What you think is a great shot of you might not be what makes a man take notice.  Get your friends and family to weigh in on this decision, especially guys you know.
  • Where are you? Too many ladies have no photo posted at all.  Girls, please.  Don’t be shy, and don’t be stubborn.  This is very important.  Post a good photo.
If your photo is blurry, more than a year old, a scan of another photo, or was taken with a cell phone, you need a new picture!  First impressions are everything, even more so in the cyber world.  Put your best foot forward by refreshing your profile picture today!

I could not agree more with this blog post! Most guys are visual, and when we are scrolling through hundreds of profiles, it is your picture that will make the first impression and perhaps catch our attention. Ladies, please post a high quality / high resolution profile pic and don’t forget to add the enlarged image as well! If we can actually tell what you look like, there is a much better chance we will stop to read the rest of your profile. If you add additional photos to your album (preferred), then it is also helpful to have captions. A full body picture in there somewhere is a plus. Also, if you post pictures of yourself with friends/family, please note which one is you (so we don’t have to guess!) And lastly, if you are missing from the majority of the photos in your album (like they are all scenery or are just of your friends and family), we are going to wonder what you are trying to hide… Thanks!

This blog is not meant to be offensive. Ladies, we want you to know that this is how we men are wired. Have a look at this video from Prager University online.
